They Have Us Surrounded!

Our yard is partially encircled by vacant lots. Before we moved here everything was graded flat for houses but some were never built. That’s cool with us. The whole area has become a well established prairie dog town and provided us with comic entertainment for over ten years!

These are different critters from the larger prairie dogs that live on the high plains and Midwestern U.S. Some folks call these ground squirrels. The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum lists them as “Black Tailed Prairie Dog” …so there.

Sometimes they come over and nibble at our plants and birdseed but have otherwise been good neighbors. Seems they have the community concept well figured. The hawks and owls love them, too!

Looming Developments

Wednesday: We’re (not) sorry for the lack of updates these past few days. We’ve been busy little animals in the workshop and design studio, making fascination happen. Because it’s all about emergence, man 🙂

Tomorrow is Patty’s birthday. Check back for AMAZING special event photography ☼

Sonoran Safari

Wednesday: Going nowhere fast. Don’t expect a destination at the end of this epic; this is 20 minutes of jeeping around in the middle of nowhere. I’m a dirt trail demon: I did all the 4×4 driving (5 speed manual) while holding the camera in one hand. It’s packed with spectacular Sonoran Desert scenery so if you’ve ever been curious about the landscape out here, well here you go…

This footage is the entire loop (edited for time) depicted on the map in the previous post, Checkin’ Out The Back 20.

Checkin’ Out The Back 20

Tuesday: Screw work (at least for this morning). Today’s forecast is ‘mostly awesome’ so I’m starting with a photo safari to the Hidden Valley Of Awesome 😀 This is my favorite ‘dash out to the desert’ trail. The path begins at the back of our neighborhood, shoots across the flats then winds around Wildcat Peak. Twenty miles of desert splendor then back to work I go…

SawtoothPano1000

I’m a total map nerd. When I was a kid I would sometimes make elaborate pirate treasure maps with scorched edges, accurately drawn paces, skulls and whatnot. I got a little carried away playing with Google Maps, Photoshop and coffee this morning…

Stay tuned for photos and if I don’t post within 24 hours, send this map to the BLM rangers :/

Dirty Dozen

Monday: 12 filthy years is how long this bucket has bounced through the bush. We bought this Jeep brand new in California back in 2003. It’s got lots of stories to tell and still going strong.

I’m posting this picture of our jeep today because it’s time to hit the trail, folks. I simply can’t resist this gorgeous desert weather any longer. Stay tuned for late breaking desert splendor photos…
