Wild Geology

Yesterday there were wild critters everywhere! This burro came alongside the Jeep to check us out. Big jackrabbits were scootin’ through every patch of scrub. We saw javelina but they were too distant to photograph. Patty went after them with the camera but they disappeared into a brushy dry creek. Best not follow; javelina are mean.

Rockhounding was our mission and we hit a patch of paydirt.  Easy to do because Arizona is a mineral rich state. Today we collected geodes, agates, obsidian, chalcedony, druse, rose quartz and many specimens to be identified later. We didn’t need to break a single rock. Everything you see here was picked from the ground 🙂

That’s The Artifacts, Jack…

This is some of the loot from yesterday’s desert scavenging safari. Here’s geodes, druse, part of a juvenile coyote or fox skull, some kind of ball (no clue, totally dry and light but hard), a ragged bit of cholla cactus skeleton, old glass shards and other sparkly minerals we haven’t yet identified.

Today Out Yonder:

Today we skittered into the Sawtooth Mountains just south of our house to take photos, search for geodes and scavenge historic metal from old frontier camp litter. The caper was a total success 😀 Here’s some pictures; tomorrow we’ll clean up the plundered booty and post more.

Hold Your Horses…

There’s a vast wilderness that begins just outside our community. We encountered this herd of wild horses only a few miles from our house. They let us hang out; no problemo.

The Rides Of March.

Highlights from our annual Patty’s Birthday Hell Yes Safari. We had to end the adventure too early because of the hound. It was Dusty’s (aforementioned hound) first time jeeping. She got hella motion sick and was drooling buckets. By lunch we decided to call it quits because we were soaked in hound spit and too grossed out to eat sandwiches. But hey, we found a trail we’ve never ridden, unacquainted cacti and this nice herd of wild horses!
